In 2015, we collected donations at 7 different locations including: Spring Meadows, Levis Commons, Westgate, Oregon's Walmart, Franklin Park Mall, Star Diner, and Kohl's in Perrysburg. Thanks to all of our volunteers including Oregon, Perrysburg and Spring Meadow's Fire Departments! With your generous help and support, we are able to make differences in our community and Be a Hero for Autism!!
Each year, The Great Lakes Collaborative for Autism (GLCA) presents a community wide awareness building and fund-raising campaign , Originally created as Give Autism the Boot! (GATB), in 2014 we changed the name to Be a Hero for Autism! to promote an encouraging event that demonstrates our commitment to growing opportunities, lives, and the future!
This campaign was developed and executed for the first time in 2006 by the GLCA. The primary concept of is to place local rescue workers along with civilian volunteers in high traffic stores and strategically located intersections to collect donations. We secure corporate sponsorship's, in kind donations, local media support, and volunteers in the community to run this two day event. Nearly all money collected is distributed right back into the local community to provide additional services, programs and support for families affected by autism. Since 2006, the GLCA through this campaign has distributed over $1 million to 20 different organizations that serve those touched by autism.
We need volunteers! Volunteering is fun, easy, and rewarding! Just a couple of hours during a Friday or Saturday can make a big impact on our community!
Be a Hero for Autism 2016 will be on Friday, June 10th and Saturday, June 11th.
